About Us
Friends for Good strives to bring people together to make a difference to worthy causes close to our members' hearts.
We harness the incredible power of our individual networks of friends to spread the word about causes that mean something to us and then exponentially increase our giving power by coming together. FFG members to contribute what they can (or want) - be it $10 or $100 - and through individual contributions of time, goods and money, we create a combined effort that makes a far greater impact. We're proud that we've made a difference to so many needy causes so far. So please tell your good friends about Friends for Good.
How it works
Each month we choose a charity to receive our support. An email is sent to all Friends for Good outlining the cause and inviting members to contribute in whatever way each member feels, by a certain date. The email includes background information, financials and, whenever possible, a link to the web site for the cause. Once all donations are received at FFG headquarters, we send the combined donation, along with a letter, to the organization. FFG members who have contributed that month will receive a copy of the letter. Letters of donation for tax purposes will come directly from the receiving organization to those contributing members.
We are currently working on establishing 501c3 status so that you'll be able to make a big donation to FFG directly to be spread across as many charities as you'd like.
How we got started
It's hard to believe the very first Friends for Good letter was sent out more than eight years ago (September 25, 1999)
Hi all —
I've been thinking a lot lately about how fortunate I am. I know that I can complain with the best of 'em, but I totally realize that in the overall scheme of things, I am extremely fortunate to have all that I do have, including the security and love of all of you.
More practically, I have been thinking about how I might get involved in charities or volunteering, but I just never get off my tush to do so. Well, today I decided that I am going to donate $10 each month to a different charity. I know it's not much, but right now I think that's what I feel comfortable with and it's a start. Anyway, the reason I'm telling you all of this is because I want to invite you to join me in a charity club of sorts. I'm not sending this to inflict any guilt or anything even remotely like that; it's just that I know I've had such a difficult time motivating myself to do this, and I might make it easier for anyone else who wants to do even a little something.
This is the deal:
We will choose a different charity each month. I'll do the research and send information out about the organization, what it does, and any other relevant facts. Then, by a certain date, whoever wishes to participate can send me a check for $10 or $5 or $100 or whatever makes you happy, made out to the charity. I'll write a letter from all of us and enclose it with all the checks.
That's it.
Meredith
